Laid way back on June 16, 2006 by Capt Amarinder Singh for the district administrative complex (DAC) at the ‘Pashu Mandi’ (animal market), the foundation stone is still intact as the authorities concerned have forgotten to remove it.

After the Vidhan Sabha elections in 2007 as well as in 2012, the Congress failed return to power in the state. The SAD-BJP government, led by Parkash Singh Badal, brought a change in the plan and built the DAC in Piddi village. The offices of the different departments were shifted to the Piddi complex, but the stone laid by Capt Amarinder Singh has not been removed till now. Tarn Taran was given the status of revenue district in 2006 by the Capt Amarinder Singh government in the state.

A similar situation arose in Gurdaspur district where four stones were laid for the DAC as the leaders were divided over choosing the site.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sandeep Rishi said the stone laid at the ‘Pashu Mandi’ should be removed as new building had been constructed in Piddi village. According to him, the issue hasn’t come to the notice of the officials concerned. Instructions would be issued for the removal of the foundation stone, he added.
