Amritsar, October 15

Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today said the Union Government was discriminating against the Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport.

Aujla said Punjabis settled abroad had been demanding direct flights from foreign countries to Amritsar, but the Union Government deliberately ignoring their demand.

Aujla said most of the Punjabis prefer arriving at Amritsar instead of New Delhi for a safe journey, but there was a need for upgrade of the airport.

While addressing a press conference at the airport, Aujla stated that the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave clearance to the CAT III B lighting system fitted at airport on October 12.

He said during fogs, flights could land and take off from Amritsar in less than 50 m visibility, whereas previously it was minimum 500 m visibility. It also helps pilots while landing during heavy rain, the MP added.
