Amritsar, April 18

A vehicle lifter has been booked for allegedly selling a stolen bike to a man. The incident came to light when the police impounded the bike and asked the driver to produce documents which he could not.

Complainant Gurmail Singh alleged that he bought a bike from Gora, a resident of Jamarai village in Tarn Taran, for Rs 35,000. He paid him some amount initially and promised the rest of the payment only after receiving the registration certificate and other documents of the bike. Gurmail said that on April 2, his brother Dharminder Singh came to the city on the said motorcycle when the police stopped him for document checking. As he did not have the documents of the vehicle, he narrated the entire case following which the cops took his identity card and asked him to bring the documents. The bike was impounded.

According to Gurmail, when he went to Gora for documents, he ran away from his house on seeing him. The complainant took no time to guess that the bike was a stolen one. He informed the police which registered a case against Gora under Sections 379, 411 and 420 of the IPC at Division D police station.

ASI Balwinder Singh, investigating officer, said raids were on to nab the suspect and the police were hoping to crack more cases of vehicle lifting after the arrest of Gora.
