Amritsar, May 16

A woman was allegedly kidnapped by her husband and mother-in-law in Islamabad here late when she was returning home from her saloon in BK Dutt gate area on Monday evening.

Identified as Riya (21), she had a marital dispute with her husband Rahul, a resident of Islamganj, in Jalandhar. The police have registered a case against Rahul and his mother Sonia. Riya is yet to be traced, the police said.

Balwinder Kaur, mother of the victim, stated to the police that Riya and Rahul had a love marriage in July last year. Five months after the marriage, differences arose between the couple and she returned to her parents. A divorce case was filed in a local court.

At around 9 pm on Monday, she along with her cousin was returning home from her brother’s saloon on a scooter. When she reached near Bolaria petrol pump, the accused along with three unknown persons in a car (PB-08-BC-4035) intercepted them. They pushed Ashu (cousin) from the scooter and bundled Riya into the car and fled away. The family tried to locate her and even went to Rahul’s residence but in vain.

Rahul works at the Municipal Corporation office in Jalandhar, said family members of the victim.

Sushpal Singh, investigating officer, said they had raided the residence of the accused which was found locked. He said they were trying to contact the MC office besides raiding at other suspected places where the accused could have taken her.

He said a case under Sections 363, 365 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused.
