Faridkot, February 16

To increase the enrolment of students in government schools, from pre-nursery classes to Class XII, the Education Department and the district administration today organised a “Mashal March”.

As the enrolment in government schools, mainly at the primary and elementary levels, is predominantly from economically weaker sections of society and most of these children are from the families of migrant labourers and poor daily wagers, so the Education Department is insisting that children from different sections of society be brought in these schools to uplift their education standard.

However, the parents are not willing to send children to government schools due to several reasons, including poor infrastructure, lack of seating arrangements and classrooms and starting of admission in private schools at early age.

As pre-nursery classes have been started in government schools from this academic session, the Education Department has asked the teachers to start awareness drives, making door-to-door identification of children in urban and rural areas to attract them towards the government schools.
