Bathinda, December 13

A park meant for children at the Advanced Cancer Institute to provide a peaceful and happy environment to visitors to the hospital has been crying for attention since its inception.

During a recent visit to the hospital, it has come to light that there are no footpaths, benches, floodlights and swings for children. Even no potable water booth has been installed here for visitors.

The Central Government had created this park under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme with the purpose of providing relief to patients and their relatives coming to the institute.

A number of visitors to the hospital alleged that it was quite unfortunate on the part of the authorities concerned not to pay heed to the maintenance of the park over the past few months.

A hospital employee, who did not wish to be quoted, said, “Earlier, there were two gardeners deployed by the Municipal Corporation for the maintenance of the park, but now only one gardener is left and he does not come frequently.”

Besides, local residents often leave their animals in the park, which damage saplings here.

When contacted, Director MK Mahajan said, “The benches installed here have been stolen. Many a time, I have urged the MC Commissioner for the maintenance of the park, but all in vain.”
