Bathinda, December 7

Dhobiana Basti primary school is all set to be upgraded to senior secondary school and a new building is to come up at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.

Finance Minister Manpreet Badal has released the first instalment of Rs 70 lakh for the project and its map has been finalised.

Finance Minister’s wife Veenu Badal on Friday visited the school and shared the new building plan and drawing with parents of students and residents of the area.

She urged officials to immediately start the building work. She also gave a cheque for Rs 70 lakh released by the Finance Minister.

While addressing the public, Veenu Badal said the Finance Minister was leaving no stone unturned to make the school number one in the state.

Veenu Badal said around Rs 1.5 crore would be spent on the school. She claimed that they were making this effort as mostly poor families lived in this area and their children study here in the school. “Our motive is to impart quality education to them,” she said.

She claimed that seeing the strength of students in the primary schools, they would make the building double storey, whereas for higher and senior secondary students, new hi-tech buildings would be constructed.

She also claimed that the school building would also have a special feature of a ramp that would be constructed for the handicapped students.

She said apart from Olympic size swimming pool, volley ball and basket ball courts would be created to motivate students towards sports.

While talking to mediapersons, Veenu Badal said, “We are working to give a facelift to all government schools in the city and provide more facilities to the students studying here”.

She said apart from Dhobiana Basti school, they were initiating new constructions of schools at Paras Ram Nagar, Udham Singh Nagar, Hazi Rattan, Janta Nagar, Sanjay Nagar and other areas.

A few days ago Veenu Badal had visited the school and checked the facilities given to the students and staff. Seeing the condition, she had promised the students and staff members for uplifting the condition of the school.

After her intervention, new building proposal for the school was prepared.
