Members of the BKU (Sidhupur) staged a protest at the Powercom office in Goniana Mandi demanding replacement of a transformer that was damaged recently at Jeeda village.

The protesters gathered outside the office and raised slogans against the authorities.

Ranjit Singh, block president of BKU (Sidhupur), said, “Powercom officials are unnecessarily harassing Gurcharan Singh, who is a farmer at Jeeda village, over a damaged transformer. It is more than a month that his transformer installed in his fields got damaged, but the department has failed to provide replacement for it. The evasive attitude of the authorities has caused harassment to the farmer.”

Gurcharan Singh said, “The transformer installed at my fields was from a branded company but despite approaching the authorities time and again, they have not ensured replacement for it. As a result, the paddy crop is getting damaged but officials of the Powercom Department are not concerned about it.”

Raj Singh, SDO, Powercom Department, Goniana subdivision, said, “I joined office on Monday. I will look into the matter and resolve it on priority.”
