Bathinda, August 13

A bizarre incident was reported in the city on Monday when around 1 pm, a youth delivered a courier parcel to the wife of Narinder Kumar at their house in National Colony.

Thereafter, she received a call demanding ransom and the speaker threatened that if they did not give the money, a bomb in the box would explode.

The woman, in a state of panic, informed her husband and the police control room. They threw the parcel in a vacant plot.

After getting information, Thermal police station SHO Gurmail Singh, along with police party, reached the spot and took the parcel in custody.

The family also gave the number to the police from which the call was received. Initially, the phone was on, but later it was switched off.

SHO Gurmail Singh said the parcel had a fake battery and a few wires. It seems that it is done to threaten and create panic, but they are probing the incident, he added.

DSP Gurjeet Singh Romana said although it was someone’s prank, it couldn’t be taken lightly. — TNS
