Malout: A man, upset over disputes with his wife, on Wednesday allegedly set his own house on fire at Patel Nagar here. Neighbours called firemen who averted a tragedy. Some clothes and other belongings were gutted. Sources said Mangal Singh, who originally hailed from Amritsar, was staying here in a rented house with his wife. “They had some dispute in the morning and Mangal set his bed on fire. Later, the flames engulfed the house,” said sources. Luckily, the firemen doused the flames in time. TNS

Oil tanker hits bike, 1 dies

Bathinda: Gurcharan Singh (48) was killed in a road accident at Kanhiya Chowk on Wednesday evening. As per information, the incident took place when Gurcharan Singh and Dr Gora Singh, residents Bada Bhaika village, were going towards their village on a motorcycle. A speeding oil tanker rammed into their bike near Kanhiya Chowk. The tanker crushed Gursharan Singh’s face and he died on the spot while Dr Gora Singh was injured in the incident. After getting information, a Thermal police team and NGO Sahara Jansewa members reached the spot and took the deceased’s body and injured to the Civil Hospital. ASI Jaswant Singh said leaving behind the oil tanker, the driver fled from the spot. The police have launched a probe into the incident. TNS
