It sounds strange, but true. The local BJP unit has lodged a complaint with the Malout police against unidentified persons for throwing ‘chutney’ at a hoarding of Prime Minister Narendra Modi installed at Peerkhana Chowk in Guru Ravidas Nagar here, leaving it spoiled.

In their complaint, BJP workers alleged that some people threw ‘chutney’ at the hoarding on Monday.

“This board has pictures of some distinguished personalities, including Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal, and the act has hurt our sentiments. We demand immediate action against the accused so that no untoward incident happens,” reads the complaint.

“We have installed hoardings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the town. But some anti-social elements threw ‘chutney’ at one of the hoardings. This is not just given disrespect to the Prime Minister but to the country. So, we met the Superintendent of Police, who sent the SHO to the spot. The police have checked CCTV footage as well, but the accused could not be identified as of now. So, we have lodged a complaint in this regard. Nearly 100 BJP workers had gone to the police station. The police have assured us of action,” said Som Nath Kalra, president, Malout unit of the BJP.

He said that the party’s district president had also been informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, the police have marked a probe in this regard.
