Bathinda, June 17

Under the Tandarust Punjab mission, the Punjab Pollution Control Board on Sunday conducted a surprise check at the Ultra Tech cement factory in Lehra Mohabbat.

During checking, the team collected samples of water from different parts of the factory. The factory management was directed to develop a green belt around the premises.

During checking of vehicles used for transportation by the factory, 16 trucks were found to be fitted with pressure horns, which is illegal.

The management assured the PPCB team that the trucks would not be used by the factory till the time the horns are not removed.

Meanwhile, under the mission, a team of the market committee conducted a meeting with vegetable and fruit vendors in Raman Mandi.

The vendors were made aware of the ills of selling vegetables and fruits ripened through artificial means and synthetic medicines.

They were urged not to sell such vegetables and fruits as these may have harmful effects on the health of consumers.

The team also met farmers and urged them not to sow vegetable and fruits in sewerage water and use only clean or recycled water for irrigating the fields. — TNS
