Bathinda, July 17

Members of the Punjab Students Union (PSU) on Tuesday gheraoed Government Rajinder College principal Satveer Singh over the denial of post-matric scholarship to Scheduled Caste (PMS-SC) students and forcing them to pay admission and tuition fee.

Student leaders Ritu, Sapna and Sangeeta Rani said the college was forcing them to pay full admission and tuition fee. Apart from this, the college is charging Rs 2,400 as PTA fund from general and BC category students, which is very high, they said.

They alleged that two rules couldn’t be implemented in the university as when Governement Mahindra College, Patiala, is waiving off full fee of the SC/BC students, Rajindra College must also do so.

Rajindra College principal Satveer Singh said for the future of the students, guest faculty members were hired. As many as 45 guest faculty teachers have been hired by the college and their salaries have to be paid from PTA fund, he added. — TNS
