School heads summoned to Chandigarh

BATHINDA/FARIDKOT: The School Education Department has summoned heads of various schools from Bathinda, Mansa, Faridkot, Barnala and Muktsar districts, which were found lacking on various counts in the past, to Chandigarh on July 31.

The School Education Department has summoned heads of various schools from Bathinda, Mansa, Faridkot, Barnala and Muktsar districts, which were found lacking on various counts in the past, to Chandigarh on July 31.

Total 94 schools in the state have been enlisted to explain the reasons for the slipshod attitude in executing and implementing the action plan for achieving the targeted improvement in the functioning of government schools.

In the notice, it is stated that Secretary, School Education, Krishan Kumar, would hold a meeting with the school heads of schools where arrangements have been not satisfactory, at 10 am at the Punjab School Education Board auditorium.

Even District School Education Improvement Teams (DSEIT) would also be present in this meeting.

The agenda of the meeting is to check what steps have been taken by the school heads to improve the level of education after the visit of DSEITs at their schools and complete report on this would be tabled in the meeting.

The DSEIT would also present report on the steps initiated by schools with poor arrangements to improve the level of education.

Even the best practices undertaken in the district would also be shared.

The schools in Bathinda district, which have been issued the notice, are Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS boys), Nathana, GSSS (boys) Phul, Government High School, Harraipur, Government Middle School, Golewala and Government Middle School, Mehma Bhagwana.

In Mansa, Government High School (GHS), Hareke, GHS, Dullewal, GHS, Mofar and GHS, Maujia, have been issued notice.

In Sri Muktsar Sahib, six schools have been issued the notice, which is the maximum in the state.

These schools are GHS, Minda, Government Middle School, Shergarh, Government Senior Secondary School, Ratta Tibba, Government Primary School, Laddaroda, GHS, Panjawa, and GHS, Ranjitgarh.

Schools, which have been issued notice in Faridkot, are GHS, Dhurkot, GHS, Jaleleana, and GHS, Dhelwa Kalan. Even in Barnala, GHS, Khurd, GHS, Behla, and GPS, Dhurkot.

Schools in other districts have also been issued notice regarding the meeting.

It is pertinent to mention that the Secretary of School Education on Saturday cracked down on the working of teachers and head teachers in schools. He, along with 28 teams, conducted checks at 158 schools in two districts Bathinda and Mansa.

Later, he held a meeting with schools heads in Bathinda in which he suspended one teacher and initiated action against other teachers who were found negligent in their work.


DSEIT formed to improve educational standards

  • To improve educational standards in government schools in the state, Secretary, School Education Department, had constituted DSEIT in the districts some time ago.
  • With teachers of different subjects as its members, the DSEIT is headed by the district science supervisor. 
  • The team visits one school on an average every day to identify the important issues, create action plan and make necessary recommendations to the schools for the implementation of action plan to make improvements.

More schools added to poor performers’ list

  • After conducting a check, the Secretary of School Education has increased the list of schools for poor performance, which have been called for a meeting in Chandigarh.  
  • The schools, which were added on Saturday, are the government school at Ralla, Patti Kala Mehraj, Harbans Nagar, Dhobiana, Maur Kalan, Tamkot, girls school at Nathana, Kotha Guru, Mirzeana, Bhagta and Maiser Khana.
