Rampura Phul has been in the news for tragic incidents that have taken place in the last eight days.

As many as eight persons lost their lives while around 35 were injured in two tragic incidents near Rampura Phul.

In a major incident today, four persons died in a head-on collision between a PRTC bus and a canter. The drivers of both vehicles lost their lives. The third deceased, a woman, identified as a resident of Ludhiana.

On May 13, a private bus caught fire in Rampura Phul. Four persons died of burn injuries and more than 20 passengers sustained injuries in the incident.

Initially the police booked the owner of the bus, Gurmail Singh, and driver Charanjit Singh, under section 304A of the IPC. However, both the accused got bail on the spot.

After being blamed for saving the accused due to their alleged links with the Congress, the police added section 304 of the IPC to the case.

The workload on the police and civil administration has also increased after the incident. Their work now also involves managing a lot of things at the same time, including take care of the injured, controlling traffic and identifying the victims besides reams of paper work.

A similar situation prevailed at the Civil Hospitals in Rampura and Bathinda. The seriously injured were taken to Bathinda for treatment.

The Rampura assembly constituency has also been in the news because of cases registered at the Rampura City and Rampura Sadar police stations.

These cases relate mostly to assault but it is a difficult task for the police to substantiate the charges because they are mostly allegations. The police has also been accused of playing into the hands of the Congress here.
