By organising various competitions on the life of Guru Nanak Dev to celebrate the 550th Parkash Purb, Education Department officials believe they have instilled the philosophy of Guru Nanak in lakhs of students across the state.

The winners of the state-level competition will get a chance to perform during the Parkash Purb celebrations from November 5 to 14.

Education Department officials said two months ago, a number of block-level competitions were organised across the state to disseminate information about life of Guru Nanak Dev. Thereafter, district-level and zone-level contests were held at Bathinda, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar and Patiala. The state-level competition will be organised from November 1 to 3 at Sangrur.

“The competitions will definitely have a positive impact on the mind of children as a majority of the students participated in them. Since it was a first-of-its-kind chain of events, we are hopeful that it would have enriched our students with religious knowledge,” said a senior official.

Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla said he had convinced the authorities of the Cultural Department to give space to his department during the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations and his department would give a chance to the winners of the state-level competition to perform in various events.

“In the past two months, we have organised various events such as seminars, debates, conferences, kavi darbars, essay-writing contests and sports competition related to the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. A large number of students participated with zest and zeal. The winners of state-level competition will share their depth information about the Guru during various competitions at Sultanpur Lodhi,” said Singla. He was speaking during a nagar kirtan.
