Bathinda, January 13

It seems that a gang of young boys has again become active in the city, which breaks windowpanes and windscreens of parked vehicles just for fun.

The windowpanes of a Maruti Zen and a Hyundai I-10, parked at Street No. 3, Malviya Nagar, were found smashed. Two more cars were found damaged on Ajit Road and Power House Road area in the past two days.

It seems that the members of the gang become active only during the foggy season. Amidst biting cold, seven cars were found broken in Model Town, Phase-III, —near the Civil Line Police Station— last year. These cars were damaged with iron rods, sticks and bricks.

City residents are upset due to such incidents and allege that despite having the CCTV footage of these young boys, who were on a bike last year in Model Town, Phase-III, the police failed to arrest them.

Now residents have installed CCTV cameras outside their houses, following the rampant chaos created by such miscreants.

“I was astonished to see the damaged front windscreen, rear view mirror and dents on the bonnet of my Maruti Zen car, which was parked at Street No. 3, Malviya Nagar, on Friday afternoon. Miscreants broke the windowpanes and windscreen even in the broad-day light,” said Pawan Kumar, a resident of Malviya Nagar.

He said a windscreen costs Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 and such amounts burn a hole in our pockets even during demonetisation.

SSP Swapan Sharma said the police are active during these days and the miscreants would be behind bars soon. He urged the people to submit CCTV footages of such elements to the police.
