‘Shift from agri to manufacturing will solve economy issues’

FATEHGARH SAHIB: To mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, a national conference on ‘Contemporary issues of Punjab economy’ was organised by Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU), Fatehgarh Sahib, here today.

To mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, a national conference on ‘Contemporary issues of Punjab economy’ was organised by Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU), Fatehgarh Sahib, here today.

The delegates from across the country participated. The event was designed to provide researchers and academicians with a forum to discuss the state of the Punjab economy and to find the probable solutions for overall and sustainable development of the economy, said Prof Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Prof Gurmail Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, highlighted that the economy suffered from issues such as sluggish growth, poor cropping pattern, farmers’ indebtedness, ailing manufacturing sector, unemployment, poor healthcare and education.

Prof Anupama from Punjabi University stressed that the structural transformation of the Punjab economy from agriculture to manufacturing sector and then to service sector can resolve many problems.

Around 50 research papers were presented on various facets of the Punjab economy and more than 100 delegates participated. — OC
