2 more fall prey to snatchers in city

There is no let-up in snatching incidents in the city with two more women falling prey to snatchers, leaving both of them injured.

Sources said two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman, identified as 37-year-old Preeti Sachdeva, at Dadu Majra Colony at 10.30 am today.

The victim said she was returning from the market when the miscreants came close to her and one of them punched her on the neck and snatched her gold chain following which she fell on the road.

The victim received an injury on her neck and was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16. Both miscreants had their faces covered with black cloth. “They were riding a black Pulsar motorcycle. However, I failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle,” Preeti said.

Images of the accused riding the motorcycle were caught in a CCTV camera installed in the market. The police were informed about the incident, who rushed to the spot. A case has been registered at the Maloya police station. Almost two hours after the incident, another snatching was reported from Sector 44 by a 67-year-old woman.

The sources said the victim, Basanti Devi, was standing outside a park near her house with her three-year-old grandson when two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched her gold chain. 

According to the victim, the accused were riding a black Pulsar motorcycle and one of them was wearing a black jacket.

The police were informed, who reached the spot. The police scrutinised the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. The police suspect the same accused were involved in both incidents.

A total of 55 snatching incidents have already been reported this year. 

Police remand for two miscreants 

The two snatchers, who were arrested on Wednesday by a team of the Maloya police, were produced in the court and sent to two-day police remand. The police said they were involved in several snatching incidents reported from the area under the jurisdiction of the Sector 39 police station. 

The miscreants, identified as Suraj and Sumit, were arrested by a team led by the Maloya SHO, Inspector Pardeep Sharma. Four cases, including one pertaining to a motorcycle theft, have been solved with their arrest.
