Ambala Sadar is now Municipal Council, notification issued

AMBALA: The state government has issued a notification today regarding declaring Ambala Sadar Zone of the erstwhile Municipal Corporation, as the Municipal Council Ambala Sadar.

The state government has issued a notification today regarding declaring Ambala Sadar Zone of the erstwhile Municipal Corporation, as the Municipal Council Ambala Sadar. The government has also appointed Ambala Cantonment SDM as the administrator of the council.

The five-year tenure of the Municipal Corporation was scheduled to expire on July 1 last year.

On February 17 last year, the Cabinet had decided to abolish the Ambala Municipal Corporation and replace it with two Municipal Councils. In a Cabinet meeting held in June this year, it was decided that the Ambala City would retain the present Municipal Corporation with inclusion of 12 adjoining villages, while new the Municipal Council will come up for Ambala Sadar with exclusion of Sadar Zone from the existing Municipal Corporation.

Health Minister and Ambala Cantonment MLA Anil Vij who was pushing for separate civic bodies said, “The government has issued a notification regarding the Municipal Council Sadar Zone and the SDM Ambala Cantonment has been appointed as the administrator of the council till the civic body’s election are conducted.”
