City all set to host Yoga Day event

CHANDIGARH: The UT Administration has made elaborate arrangements for the International Yoga Day celebrations to be held at the Sector 17 plaza here on Thursday.

The UT Administration has made elaborate arrangements for the International Yoga Day celebrations to be held at the Sector 17 plaza here on Thursday.

Union Minister Smriti Irani will be the guest of hounor on the occasion while the UT Administrator will be the chief guest.

According to the schedule, participants will arrive at 5 am while the dignitaries will arrive at 6.10 am. The event will begin with a welcome address at 6.12 am. Member of Parliament Kirron Kher’s address is scheduled for 6.14 am and Irani will speak at 6.16 am. Heads of yoga organisations will be hounoured at 6.21 am.

VP Singh Badnore, UT Administrator, will speak at 6.26 am. From 6.30 am to 7 am, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s yoga address will be streamed live. Thereafter, the yoga event will be held from 7 am to 8 am. Officials said approximately 3,500 people will participate in the main event Special attraction will be the yoga performance of 30 students trained in yoga.

Around 1,000 students, teachers and other trained staff from the Government College for Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23, besides members of Patanjali, Brahmakumaris, Art of Living, yoga sabhas and various other associations will be part of the celebrations. A list of participants has been finalised by the Administration. Only those who are trained by yoga associations as per the national protocol will be allowed. As many as 890 personnel from the CRPF and 400 policemen will be deployed. This year, the function will cost Rs 40 lakh to the city. Yoga mats and T-shirts will be distributed among the participants.
