Congress, Akali workers clash

MOHALI: A clash was reported between Congress and Akali workers at Barri village in the Sohana area.

A clash was reported between Congress and Akali workers at Barri village in the Sohana area.

According to the police, the incident took place this afternoon when a Congress worker was taking a visually impaired man inside a polling booth in Barri village. However, it didn’t go well with the Akali workers who beat him up.”

Subsequently, workers of both parties attacked each other which affected the atmosphere at the polling booth.

However, the violence didn’t affect the normal polling.

Harcharan Singh Bhullar, SSP (City), while confirming the incident, said: “Investigations are on into the incident. Action will be taken in accordance with the law after the probe. Two separate cases are being filed.” Sub-Inspector Khushpreet Kaur, SHO, said no FIR had been filed.

A case was registered against Vishal Sood and Tarlochan Singh, both residents of Mataur, under Section 132 of the Representation of the People’s Act, 1951, and Section 188 and 506 of the IPC.

Daler Singh, Jaspreet Singh, alias Soni, Jagdeep Singh Jaggi, Jasvant Singh and Harnek Singh, all residents of Barri village, were charged under Sections 160 and 506 of the IPC. The suspects are yet to be arrested.
