Chandigarh, August 20

In a fresh hope for over 1,200 members of the Sky Rock City Welfare Society, the general house meeting of the society today formed a new executive, “sacking” incumbent president Navjit Singh, who allegedly collected nearly Rs 175 cr from the members, but failed to give them plots and flats.

The society members became victims to one of the biggest housing scams when the accused could only buy about 6 acres of land against the required 25 acres for the project.

DIlmohan Singh, the newly elected president, said the general house unanimously passed a resolution dissolving the old executive in view of the conviction of Navjit Singh and other-office bearers by courts.

The house passed a resolution barring Navjit singh and his family members from holding any office and membership of the society. It then unanimously elected a new president and office-bearers and executive for one year.

The house decided to register police cases against Navjit Singh and his wife for a criminal breach of trust of the members and financial bungling of society funds.

Besides Dilmohan Singh, the new executive comprised: vice-president Avinash Thakur, general secretary MS Mavi, joint secretary Col TS Sidhu, cashier Umesh Garg and seven executive members, including Dr KS Chawla, vice chancellor, RIMT.

Dilmohan said the new team had initiated process for taking fresh licences from different departments required for the housing project. All these licences were cancelled following the fraud. — TNS
