Harshit helps Chandigarh beat Arunachal

CHANDIGARH:Harshit Singh returned a four-wicket haul as Chandigarh defeated Arunachal Pradesh by seven wickets in their Men’s U-23 One Day Trophy match at Cuttack today to stay atop the Plate group.

Harshit Singh returned a four-wicket haul as Chandigarh defeated Arunachal Pradesh by seven wickets in their Men’s U-23 One Day Trophy match at Cuttack today to stay atop the Plate group. 

Electing to bat, Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 104 runs in 39 overs.  

Mandeep Singh provided the first breakthrough to Chandigarh, when he removed Ashar Jamal for 11 runs in the eighth over.   

Captain Nabam Josh was run out on naught before Mandeep dismissed Mohammad Gaji on 17 to reduce Arunachal to 33/3 in the 12th over. 

Sarvesh Kalra (13), Licha Jhon (13), Likha Sonia (3), Akash Kumar (13) and Samay Batra (0) did not last long either.     

Wicketkeeper Techi Sonam scored 18 off 28 balls before he was sent back by Harshit as Arunachal folded up their innings on 104 runs.

Harshit was the most successful bowler for Chandigarh, claiming 4/18 in his eight overs. Mandeep (2/19) and Bhagmender Singh (2/21) took two wickets each.

Chandigarh, in reply, romped home in the 23rd over with seven wickets in hand. Amrit Lubana scored an unbeaten 39-ball 31, while Bhagmender remained not out on two.

Opener Mohd Arslan Khan, who scored a century each in Chandigarh’s first two matches, was run out on 18, while skipper Jagmeet Singh was trapped in front of wickets by Akash after scoring a 29-ball 23. Raman Bishnoi contributed 26 runs to the chase.    

Chandigarh now have 12 points with three wins from an equal number of matches lead the Plate group. Bihar is second, while Meghalaya is placed third. 

Chandigarh will face Cricket Association of Mizoram in their fourth match on Saturday.

The top team in the Plate group makes it to the knock-out stage.
