The installation of signboards in Braille has started at the Chandigarh District Courts. Signboards outside lifts and washrooms were installed today in English as well as in Braille. The work on floor tiles to assist the blind in walking has recently been completed.

The District Courts have lifts, ramps as well as special washrooms for specially-abled. However, at times they are locked. Hence, rendered useless. The work on special floor tiles for the blind was completed last year. Recently, the same was undertaken for the ramps and has been completed now.

Other new facilities include a digital information kiosk and the public announcement system. The digital information kiosk assists litigants as well as lawyers by providing ready access to court orders, cause list and case status. The public announcement system began in all courts last month.

However, the videoconferencing facility in courts is yet to start. In September last year, each court got an LED screen. The work was completed in a few days and at a very quick pace. They were meant for videoconferencing in courts on the directions of the Supreme Court.

Currently, one room on the ground floor has the videoconferencing facility. The Supreme Court had also said that the video-conferencing facility in divorce, custody and other matrimonial cases when the estranged couple lives in different cities, will help in speedy disposal of cases.
