Lakshya, Rishi ease into semis

MOHALI: Top seed Lakshya Gupta packed off Praneel Sharma in straight sets to enter the boys’ U-14 semifinals in the ongoing Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship here on Tuesday. Gupta won 6-2 6-4.

Top seed Lakshya Gupta packed off Praneel Sharma in straight sets to enter the boys’ U-14 semifinals in the ongoing Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship here on Tuesday. Gupta won 6-2 6-4. 

Earlier, in the pre-quarterfinals, Gupta registered a 6-4 6-3 win over Samarpit Bhatia.

Hardik Khanduja, meanwhile, overcame Jivaj Chawla in a see-saw battle to make it to the last-eight.  

Khanduja won the opening set 6-4, but Chawla drew level with a 7-5 win the second set. Khanduja, though, regained his composure and sealed the decider 6-3 to stay alive in the championship.

In the boys’ U-16 quarterfinals, top seed Rishi Dahiya lived up to his billing as he downed Aarush Sharma 6-4 6-3. Sannat Goel humbled Divjot Singh 6-2 6-3, while Rajan Kumar dismissed Jagteshwar Singh 6-2 6-2.
