Lalru: A 38-year-old man died after being hit by a car on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway near the Lalru bus stand on Saturday.



Lalru: A 38-year-old man died after being hit by a car on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway near the Lalru bus stand on Saturday. The deceased, who has been identified as Kishan Kumar Yadav, a resident of Sharanpur, was waiting for a bus at the time of the incident, said sources. He had come to Lalru along with his uncle. A car coming from the Ambala side hit him. He died on the way to the hospital. The Lalru police have registered a case. OC

Jewellery, cash stolen 

Chandigarh: Thieves decamped with cash and gold jewellery from a house in Sector 36 here. Complainant Dinesh Gautam told the police that some unknown persons entered his house and stole a gold kitty set, tikka, necklace, nose pin, five rings, eight earrings and two bangles. The theft took place on November 16. A case has been registered at the Sector 36 police station. The police have said the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area was being scrutinised. Man gets jail in cheating case  

Chandigarh: A Sonepat resident was sentenced to three-year imprisonment by a CBI court in an eight-year-old case of cheating and impersonation. The convict, Satbir, had sent someone else in his place to undertake an entrance exam for the post of a Municipal Corporation fireman. Two weeks ago, Tinku of Sonepat was sentenced to three-year jail in the case. Separate FIRs were registered against the accused. TNS

Councillor held for assault

Kharar: The Kurali City police have arrested Paramjeet Singh, a member of the Municipal Council, Kurali, on the charge of assault or criminal force to deter a police personnel from discharge of his duty. Kurali City SHO Himmat Singh said a case under Sections 353 and 186 of the IPC has been registered against Paramjeet Singh. The SHO said the accused assaulted Head Constable Sanjeev Kumar on Friday. The accused was produced in a local court on Saturday. The court sent him to judicial remand till December 1. OC

Theft at house in Kharar

Kharar: Thieves decamped with gold and cash from a house in New Sunny Enclave here. In his complaint, Amarinder Singh, stated that he had left his house on November 12 and returned on November 14 only to find the house ransacked. He later found 150 grams of gold and Rs 72,000 missing. A case has been registered against unknown persons under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC at the Kharar Sadar police station. The police have started an investigation into the case. OC
