Chandigarh, January 13

A local court has acquitted a Mohali resident in a cheque-bounce case. A case was filed by Sri Ram Transport Corporation against Darshan Singh who had financed a car from them.

Singh had failed to pay an instalment on time after which the company submitted his security cheque in bank. However, the cheque was dishonoured and the company approached the court. However, the defence had pleaded in court that the bank had submitted the cheque with more amount than was due.

Darshan Singh had purchased a Ford Figo car in 2012 and had taken Rs 3.91 lakh from the company. Defence counsel Dikshit Arora informed that till 2014, Singh had paid off Rs 2.15 lakh. However failure to pay the instalment after that led to his car being confiscated by the company.

As per his counsel, the amount payable, including the interest, was Rs 5.45 lakh out of which Rs 2.15 lakh had already been paid. However, the company still submitted the security cheque of Rs 3.91 lakh which was more than the amount that was due. After listening to arguments on both sides, the court acquitted Singh.
