Modi’s role vital, but got re-elected for work: Kirron

In an apparent reference to the opposition within the city Kirron Kher, the local BJP, today said she hoped that somebody would say that her second term win was due to her work other than the Modi factor.

“Some may say that I won the first MP elections as I am a celebrity. But, the second time, one’s working style matters to attain victory. Someone else says or not, I will say this myself. I am among my people so I can say this,” Kirron said while addressing party workers and senior leaders during a “thanks giving” event at the Sector 34 ground today.

She maintained that Modi did play a major role in her victory, but her re-election was also a referendum on her work.

“After I was elected as an MP, there were many who used to criticise me, but I still stood. This I have learnt from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is used to being criticised severally from his days in Gujarat. When people throw stones at you, how to built a fort,” she added.

Later, Kirron thanked all party workers and councillors for supporting her. However, Kirron’s special thanks was reserved for her own team members whom she named and praised from the dais.

Meanwhile, city BJP president Sanjay Tandon said he had completed almost 10 years as the party chief in Chandigarh. “During my tenure, the Saffron party won all elections, including the panchayat samiti, MC and MP polls (two times) by a record margin,” he added.

Tandon also named party office-bearers, who worked during elections. This was given a miss by Kirron in her address as she named mainly her own loyalists like Tandon did.

Later, city BJP affairs in-charge Prabhat Jha reminded those present on the occasion that the party was above everything. He praised both Tandon and Kher while highlighting Modi’s leadership.

Meanwhile, it was a great feast for party workers at the Sector 34 ground. It was nothing less than a fat grand wedding party. Most food stall vendors had come from different states with their specialties.
