Heart-rending scenes were witnessed after the bodies of the UT police’s Home Guards volunteer (HGV) and his brother-in-law reached at their houses on Monday. Their bodies were cremated in Mani Majra.

Volunteer Sunil Kumar and his brother-in-law Ishan Sharma were killed after rolling boulders hit their bike near the Kashang nullah, about 10 km before Reckong Peo in Kinnaur district, on Sunday. They were on their way to Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti when the tragedy struck.

While Sunil was a resident of Mani Majra, Ishan resided at Saini Vihar, Baltana, in Zirakpur.

Sunil’s wife was inconsolable as she saw her husband’s body.

“It is a double tragedy for her as she lost her husband and younger brother in the tragic incident,” said a relative.

Sunil, son of a retired ASI, was posted at the Mani Majra police station. Police personnel, including Inspector Ranjit Singh, SHO Mani Majra police station, and victim’s colleague turned up at the cremation ground to pay their last tributes.

A large number of people and relatives had also turned up at Ishan’s house to bid a tearful adieu.

They expressed deep sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.

Hailing from a humble family, Ishan is survived by his parents, two elder sisters and elder brother Ravi Sharma, working as an Associate General Manager with IDS Argus Healthcare Services Private Limited.

Ishan, who was described as an intelligent and bright youth, by his father and his friends had done graduation from Khalsa College, Chandigarh, in 2014. He was running his own mobile shop at Sector 22, Chandigarh, for the past three years.
