Practise hard before going for a driving test as the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has decided not to give endless opportunities to applicants for appearing for the test.

Discarding the current practice of allowing the applicants to appear for the test multiple times, the RLA will now initially allow them only three chances, with a gap of seven days between each each chance.

If an applicant fails to clear the test in three chances, he or she will have to wait for two months to appear for the test again. Sources said an order for the implementation of the new system was issued recently by Registering and Licensing Authority Virat. The move is aimed at ensuring that those appearing for the driving test take it seriously. Virat said three chances would be allowed with a gap of at least seven days between each chance. After that the applicant will be allowed to appear for the test after two months. In case the applicant fails in the fourth chance after a gap of two months, he or she will have to go through the same procedure again.

The applicant will have to apply for a fresh learner’s licence in case he fails to clear the test in six months.

Clearing the driving test has become tough after the implementation of the new camera-based innovative driving testing system at Children Traffic Park in Sector 23.

The applicant has to drive a vehicle on the track and his performance is recorded in cameras. Around 50 sensors have been installed on the entire track. Based on the performance, marks are given to the applicant automatically without any human interference.
