Man booked for theft

Chandigarh: A resident of Dadu Majra has been booked for theft and criminal breach of trust. According to the police, the complainant, Sunil Both, alleged that Raj Kumar took a Tempo Traveller from him and later stole an AC, stereo, battery, seats, spare tyre and power pump from the vehicle. A case has been registered against the suspect at the Maloya police station. The police have initiated an investigation into the case. TNS

Youth held with illegal weapon

Ambala: The CIA-II of the Ambala police arrested a youth and recovered a countrymade pistol and two cartridges from his possession on Saturday night. The suspect has been identified as Avtar Singh, a resident of SAS Nagar, Mohali. He was produced in a court, which sent him to three-day police custody.  The youth was stopped near the Ambala Cantonment railway station on suspicion. His search yielded a .32 bore countrymade pistol and two cartridges. TNS

Draw of lots held for vending sites

Chandigarh: The MC on Sunday conducted a draw of lots for 352 vending sites. Registered vendors would be shifted to these sites. According to officials, vendors were allotted sites in various sectors, including 15, 44, 45 and 38 besides Dhanas and Maloya villages. Yesterday, a draw of lots for 140 sites was conducted. Till now, draws for 3,200 sites have been conducted. TNS

400 new lawyers take oath

Chandigarh: Around 400 newly enrolled advocates were administered oath and awarded enrolment certificated by Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, during a function organised at Law Bhawan on Sunday. Wishing them success, Justice Jain advised the new entrants to have patience and work with sincerity and integrity to achieve the goal of practice to perfection. Harpreet Singh Brar, Chairman, Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, advised the new entrants to maintain dignity of the noble legal profession. Parents and guardians of the newly enrolled advocates, who hail from Punjab, Haryana and the UT, attended the ceremony. The Bar Council was established under the Advocates Act 1961. TNS
