Chandigarh, December 3

To remove vendors from unauthorised areas, the Municipal Corporation (MC) today ordered that Saturday and Sunday would be working days for all employees this weekend.

Vendors have already been issued notices to shift to their allotted sites. The notice period expires on Thursday.

On Friday, they will be removed by the MC with the help of the local police. Since, the next two days will be Saturdays and Sundays, the corporation fears that the vendors might return to the places from where they would be evicted. Also, the civic body wants to ensure a continuous drive to remove vendors.

Most of the vendors in Sector 17, 19 and 22 are to be shifted to Sector 15 where about 850 sites have been identified. Those sitting in Sector 1-6 will be shifted to Sector 7. However, vendors have refused to vacate the space.

The cremation will take place at the Sector 25 cremation ground tomorrow at 1 pm.
