Water woes of the royal city continue amid the low and inadequate water supply in many parts of the city over the past few weeks.

Residents of Gobind Nagar, Model Town, Bachitar Nagar, Badungar, Safabadi Gate, Sirhindi Bazaar, Lakad Mandi, SST Nagar and other localities have accused the government agencies of not acting promptly on their complaints.

Besides the residential localities, the commercial buildings developed by the local bodies are also facing the acute shortage of water supply. In the Beant Singh Shopping Complex, there is no water supply for the last 10 days.

With the authorities unmoved, the desperate residents even started sending emails to Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Capt Amarinder Singh on their plight and urging him to force the authorities to act.

In his email sent to the CM, Sukhninder Singh writes, “I am a resident of Gobind Nagar, Patiala. For the past three days, there is not a drop of water in the municipal water supply line. I appeal to the Chief Minister, Punjab, who is also the MLA-elected representative of Patiala, to urgently intervene and tackle the serious water shortage.”

Gurpal Singh, another resident, said “The supply only lasted 15-20 minutes and it wasn’t enough to fill our overhead tanks. The water supply has been slow and inadequate over the last one month.” The water woes have also raised question mark on the role of the Opposition party, Congress, in the Municipal Corporation, which has not raised the issue promptly in the House.

Patiala DC Kumar Amit said, “I will review the situation and will direct the MC officials for the speedy solution of the problem.”
