Sleuths of the Punjab State Operation Cell arrested two weapon suppliers with one .32 bore country-made pistol, three live cartridges and two empty magazines here.

The accused have been identified as Jaikush, alias Rahul (19), and Jasmeet Singh (25), both residents of Amritsar.

According to Varinderpal Singh, AIG, Punjab State Operation Cell, both accused were arrested from near the railway station in Ludhiana.

He said the duo used to supply weapons to miscreants in Punjab area.

“They used to purchase mainly country-made pistols and ammunition from Bihar and sell these here with margin, ranging between Rs 10,000 and 15,000 per weapon,” said the AIG.

He said they recovered one pistol of .32 bore along with empty magazine from Rahul and one magazine and two live cartridges from Jasmeet Singh.

During preliminary interrogation of the miscreants, it has come out that both accused were living in the same locality in Amritsar.

“They both are Class 12 pass out and are unemployed,” said AIG Varinderpal Singh. Jaikush was already booked in a case under the Arms Act at Amritsar. “We are now investigating whether the weapons that the duo has supplied have been used in any crime here,” said the AIG.

Both the suspects were produced before a court, which sent them to three-day police remand. A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the duo at the Punjab State Operation Cell police station here.
