Chandigarh, June 19

In the past five days, the UT police have witnessed mass transfers, ordered by outgoing DGP TS Luthra. As many as 134 police personnel, including a DSP and an Inspector, have been transferred. Interestingly, the transfers took place after Luthra’s transfer orders were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Luthra was not available for comments. Luthra’s transfer orders were issued on June 14. A day later, he transferred 52 police personnel — nine sub-inspectors (SIs), four assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) and 39 head constables and constables.

The second list of transfers came out on June 18 in which 81 police personnel — 14 SIs, 12 ASIs and 55 others, including head constables and constables, were transferred.

On Tuesday, Luthra transferred a DSP and an Inspector. DSP Charanjit Singh was transferred from the security wing to the Research and Training Centre, while Inspector Naseeb Singh was transferred from the Sector 36 police station to the security branch. The mass transfers, that too at a time when Luthra is waiting for his successor to join, have come as a surprise. Luthra will be replaced by Sanjay Beniwal, a 1989-batch IPS officer, who is expected to join this week.
