Patiala, February 18

Three traffic policemen were suspended after the widow of the noted Punjabi playwright, Ajmer Singh Aulakh, accused them of demanding bribe through a Facebook post.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu ordered a probe after the matter was brought into his notice. A departmental inquiry will be carried out by the Deputy Superintendent of Police  City 2. Those suspended are Assistant-Sub Inspector Prem Singh and Head Constables Satpal and Balwinder Singh.

In a Facebook post, Manjit Kaur Aulakh had written that she, along with another artiste, was coming from Mohali on February 5 when their car was stopped by the traffic cops for jumping a traffic light near Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib in Patiala.

“In fact, we had taken a turn towards Fountain Chowk on green signal. The traffic cops stopped us in the middle of the road,” she wrote.

Manjit Kaur further wrote that the traffic cops asked for documents, which were complete in all form. Then, the cops said a challan would be issued for jumping the traffic light, she alleged.
