Retd Army man attacks ASI with knife, booked

DERA BASSI: High drama was witnessed at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, yesterday night when a retired Army man, who visited the hospital for a check-up, allegedly demanded priority treatment at knifepoint in the emergency ward.

High drama was witnessed at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, yesterday night when a retired Army man, who visited the hospital for a check-up, allegedly demanded priority treatment at knifepoint in the emergency ward.

The suspect also allegedly attacked ASI Gurmukh Singh for trying to stop him. The ASI reportedly suffered cuts on his both hands and has been admitted to the hospital.

The suspect, identified as Gobind Bakshish Singh, a resident of Chandigarh, not only gave tough time to the hospital night staff, but also made things difficult for other attendants of the patients by threatening them with a knife. When a few staff members tried to stop him, he got indulged in a spat and threatened them with dire consequences, sources said.

IO Balvir Singh, Dera Bassi, said ASI Gurmukh Singh posted at the Dera Bassi police station received a call from a doctor at the hospital that a man had created ruckus in the emergency ward. The ASI, along with his team, rushed to the hospital where they tried to stop Gobind from creating ruckus. The suspect then allegedly attacked the ASI with a knife and fled from the spot, the IO said. As per preliminary investigation, the suspect seems to be mentally upset. Meanwhile, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC. The suspect was yet to be arrested, the IO added. Sources said the suspect was carrying two knives. — OC
