Chandigarh, May 24
The heat wave has started taking a toll on city residents as patients complaining of giddiness and high fever continue to visit the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16.
Nearly 12 patients were rushed to the hospital emergency on Thursday afternoon with complaints of giddiness. “Fortunately, we have not treated anyone who fainted due to heatstroke,” stated the doctor at the emergency.
The Health Department circulated guidelines regarding preliminary treatment among doctors and nurses.
Director (Health Services) Dr G Dewan suggested that people should keep themselves hydrated and drink water at regular intervals. “In case of heat-related cramps, sponge should be applied on the affected part and the person should be kept at a cool place,” said Dewan.
The department has also advised the residents to remain indoors, advising them to take water, butter milk, ORS and lemonade at regular intervals. The department has also advised them to take a bath at regular intervas.
The department has also suggested the resident to reduce the intake of protein-rich food. It has also advised people to cut the intake of tea, coffee, alcohol and or any product that decreases water level in the body. — TNS
