Chandigarh, May 18

Students appearing for exams in Panjab University are facing a new problem these days. Students are not allowed to carry anything with them and have to leave their bags and all other items outside the examination hall. However, in the three hours, their belongings are being stolen.

A student of the university has filed a police complaint in this regard. Mehak Jain informs that when she came out of an examination hall in the economics department yesterday, her bag was nowhere to be found. The bag contained two smart phones, including an iPhone along with other valuables. She had a tough time as her ID proofs, hostel room keys and notes were in the bag.

While talking to some other students, it came to light that these kinds of thefts are happening in other exam centres as well. The students have informed that mobile phones are being stolen from inside bags lying outside other exam centres as well.

The students have demanded that the CCTVs be installed in the corridors of all departments.

Chairperson of the economics department Upinder Sahwney says, “We are not responsible for the belongings of students. Such thefts were last heard 15- 20 years ago.”

The students of the university say that they would soon write a letter to the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar regarding the same.
