UT Admn allows additional activities in Industrial Area

CHANDIGARH: In a relief to industrialists, the UT Administration has allowed several additional activities in the Industrial Area, besides giving relaxations in need-based changes.

In a relief to industrialists, the UT Administration has allowed several additional activities in the Industrial Area, besides giving relaxations in need-based changes.

MP Kirron Kher made the announcement regarding the relaxations in a statement issued today. She said these were long-pending demands of industries, which her predecessors failed to fulfil.

Chandigarh Tribune was the first to report the move of the Administration, which will help the industries grow further. The Administration issued the notification today.

Additional activities that have been allowed

  • Engineering/industrial/structural testing labs
  • Audio-visual recording studios for social media
  • Documentation centre for industrial designing and printing: CAD/CAM design workshop
  • Security management services
  • All types of authorised service centres and industry & automobile-related service and repair centres with spares and accessories.
  • Telecom/DTH/Internet and cable operator services like telecom exchanges, back and billing, bill printing and collection centres
  • General items, industrial goods, white goods, medical/surgical goods (medicine) only
  • Base kitchen for restaurants and outdoor caterers without opening up of restaurants/take away/online restaurants

Need-based changes that have been allowed

  • Usage of office-cum-display block with workshop can be interchanged due to specific need of the industry, subject to compliance of building bylaws and fire norms.
  • Cycle stand shall be allowed to be used for other purposes such as storage of raw material and other industrial-related functions.
  • Partial covering of central courtyard with polycarbonate sheets for storage only may be allowed without charges, subject to compliance of building bylaws and fire NOC.

Industrialists hail decision

Pankaj Khanna, president, Industries Association of Chandigarh, MPS Chawla, president, Chandigarh Industrial Association, Navin Manglani, president, Chambers of Chandigarh Industries, and Yudhvir Kaura, president, Laghu Udyog Bharti, have hailed the move. They said with the relaxations, the industries would grow and witness further development.

City BJP president Sanjay Tandon thanked UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, Adviser Manoj Parida and Finance Secretary AK Sinha for the decision. He  said traders would now be able to make necessary changes within their area according to their needs.
