CHANDIGARH: Prof Dheeraj Sanghi, an alumnus of the IIT-Kanpur, has been appointed as the new Director of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh.

Prof Dheeraj Sanghi, an alumnus of the IIT-Kanpur, has been appointed as the new Director of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh.

Though the official orders of the appointment came on Friday, Professor Sanghi is expected to join within two weeks.

He did his BTech from the IIT-Kanpur in 1986 and PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1993. Professor Sanghi has spent 25 years at the IIT-Kanpur and has been working as a professor at the institute’s computer science department since 2003. He was also the Dean of Academic Affairs at the IIT-Kanpur from 2011 to 2014.

He was also the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Dean of External Relations at the IIT-Delhi for two years and helped in starting CS+X programmes there.

He also worked as Director to the Vice-Chancellor of the LNMIIT, a deemed-to-be university in Jaipur, for two years. On his plans for PEC, Professor Sanghi said, “Faculty hiring is important for any engineering institute. I will strive to bring the best faculty to the institute. I will ensure that the curriculum is up to date and students get holistic experience. I am looking forward to a five-year stint as PEC Director.”
