Chandigarh, December 11

The tricity today received the first rainfall of the winter season. The Met Department had predicted rain from December 11 to 13. The city witnessed a drizzle in the afternoon followed by heavy showers in the evening.

Surinder Paul, Director, Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, said the city would witness 3 to 4 cm of rainfall till Tuesday morning.

He said due to overcast conditions, the day temperature would witness a downward trend in the coming days.

The maximum temperature recorded in the city today was 21.6°C while the minimum temperature was 11.6°C.

The Chandigarh Meteorological Centre received frantic calls from wedding organisers and cricket fans keen to know the weather forecast for December 12 and 13. The ODI between India and Sri Lanka is slated for December 13.

Paul said rain was expected on December 12 and 13.

December 12 is being considered auspicious and a large number of weddings are scheduled for the day.

“We are receiving calls from people wanting to know the weather forecast. Many wedding planners are asking whether it will be safe to arrange the function outdoors,” said Paul. “There is 40 per cent chance of rain on December 13. Showers could hamper play,” said Paul.
