The Global Annual Alumni Meet of PEC was organised by Punjab Engineering College Old Students’ Association (PECOSA), in association with the Dean, Alumni, Corporate and International Relations, on Saturday.

The meet was attended by more than 650 delegates, including 60 from the US, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and Nepal, along with their spouses. A short movie was shown, highlighting various activities going on in the institute. The batches of 1959, 1969, 1984, 1994 and 2004 were honoured during this meet.

Colonel Vir Inder of 1997 batch said: “It has been 50 years now. Back then, Chandigarh was less populated. We used to venture out in the lush green jungles of the city and enjoyed in the lap of nature. We didn’t have mobile phones then.”

Sanjay Bhanjana, working as the Director for India at Dutch-based IT Company, who is from the 1994 batch, said: “Coming to the campus after 25 years is an emotional feeling that cannot be weaved into words. We were anxious, full of fears when we stepped on the soil of PEC. However, today I feel confident and proud to come home. The campus is still the same.”

Oldest alumnus shows up at PEC

At 96, BS Grewal, the only alumnus from the 40s batch, is keeping the tradition alive by again showing up at the Punjab Engineering College (PEC) alumni meet. Last year, he was accompanied by two other alumni Brig (retd) Gobinder Singh and Gurlal Singh Tandon from the 1947 batch. Grewal graduated from the Punjab College of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, in 1943. He reminisced: “There used to be 15 Muslim students and a few Indians in my batch. It was a good atmosphere as we studied with zest.”
