CICU discusses ways to conserve water

LUDHIANA: The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertaking (CICU) held its first environment improvement committee (Green manufacturing) meeting to discuss various issues related to controlling pollution, water saving and cleaning of Bhudha Nullah, among others.

The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertaking (CICU) held its first environment improvement committee (Green manufacturing) meeting to discuss various issues related to controlling pollution, water saving and cleaning of Bhudha Nullah, among others.

Upkar Singh Ahuja, president, said the CICU has formed a five member core environment committee which would discuss methods to save water. He said the CICU has been involved with “Pani Mera Hani” initiative taken by the SAMBHAV. Ahuja informed that in Ludhiana, approximately 60 crore litre water was used every day by households and industry. Out of which around 20 crore litre water gets wasted.

The CICU would hold programmes on water saving for foremen, plant holder, electroplating industry, households and dying industry. A laboratory would also be established for effluent testing.

Jatinder Pal Singh Manchanda, convener of the committee, said the social networking platforms, including Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter would be used to increase awareness among people.

SB Singh, joint secretary, CICU, said the main objective of the programme would be to create awareness and they would also make a video on Dos and Don’t for saving water.
