Action taken against tainted cops quite slow: RTI activist

In the past three years, the Delhi police have received more than 70,000 complaints against their own personnel, but investigation was done only in 535 cases.

During this, the police suspended 488 personnel whereas 40 personnel were dismissed from the services. In 2014-15 and 2016, the police received as many as 70,724 complaints.

RTI activist Yusuf Naqi had asked the information from the police regarding these complaints. He also asked on how many complaints investigation was carried out and how many personnel were suspended or their services were terminated.

In a reply to the RTI, the police stated that in 2016, 19,660 complaints were received, but 160 were investigated and 126 personnel suspended.

The services of 12 personnel were terminated. In 2015, the police received 25,901 complaints, but investigation was initiated on 191 personnel and 157 were suspended whereas five were expelled from the services. In 2014, 25,163 complaints were received and the investigation was done on 184 of them and 205 personnel were suspended and 23 dismissed from services.

The complaints were filed against the personnel for dereliction, carelessness and involvement in corruption and criminal activities.
