New Delhi, July 22

Faizal Ali (19), a resident of Khyala Village and a school dropout, who turned into a snatcher and started motorcycle theft, has been arrested, said a police official.

From his possession, a country-made pistol with one live cartridge, 21 snatched mobile phones and stolen motorcycle on which he used to flee after snatching have been recovered, said DCP Chinmoy Biswal (Southeast).

Police gathered and developed information about a snatcher who has been seen in Kalkaji and the Govindpuri area recently. They laid a trap on July 17 near Govindpuri fish market and Ali, who was roaming there, was arrested with his motorcycle.

His backpack was searched and 21 mobile phones were recovered, which were found to be snatched and robbed, said the DCP.

The accused also used to receive snatched mobile phones from pick-pocketers apart from snatching himself and used to further sell them to a receiver, Sunny.  The day he was caught, he was going to sell the mobiles to Sunny at a pre-fixed place at Govindpuri, the DCP added.

As the investigation proceeds, efforts are being made to trace his associates as well as to connect the recovered mobile phones, Biswal said.
