Delhi cop shot dead in Meerut

NEW DELHI:A Delhi Police head constable, Swajeet Singh, was shot dead by two unknown motorcycle-borne assailants at Meerut, a police official said.



New Delhi, October 15

A Delhi Police head constable, Swajeet Singh, was shot dead by two unknown motorcycle-borne assailants at Meerut, a police official said.

The incident was reported from Kharkhoda (Meerut). The official was returning from a programme at a nearby gurdwara with his wife, when the two assailants started chasing him.

Suddenly, both the assailants stopped Singh's car and started firing indiscriminately on him and fled away. His wife escaped unhurt in the firing, said the official. Meerut police reached the spot to take Singh to the hospital. But, he passed away on the way.

Singh's relatives were informed about the incident. They placed Singh's body on the road and stopped the traffic movement demanding arrest of the accused.

The Meerut police has sent the body for the postmortem. Senior police officer, Rajesh Kumar said, "We have made various teams to nab the accused and initiated the investigation." — TNS
