Harmeet Walia seeks action against guilty

NEW DELHI: Newly appointed president of woman wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) Harmeet Kaur Walia demanded action against the general manager (GM), Harjeet Singh against whom a woman levelled allegation of sexual abuse.

New Delhi, April 21

Newly appointed president of woman wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) Harmeet Kaur Walia demanded action against the general manager (GM), Harjeet Singh against whom a woman levelled allegation of sexual abuse.

The DSGMC is a religious body. When a woman goes there for a job she should be given proper respect. But the allegation she has levelled against the GM is very heinous. This should be inquired and the culprit should be punished, she said.

Harmeet said instead of taking action against the GM, the DSGMC had given him advocate to argue the case in the court. “We are with the women. If the GM is not punished, the women wing will organise dharna to pressurise the DSGMC to give justice to the woman,” she said.

Harmeet said DSGMC president Manjit Singh (GK) and general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has appointed separate committees to investigate and examine the allegations. One is being headed by Justice (retired) RS Sodhi.

She said when the case was already being investigated by the police the departmental inquiry by Justice Sodhi would be an attempt of GK to save the skin of his “favourite” employees. – TNS
