7,600 appear for PGI entrance exam

CHANDIGARH:The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) held its entrance exam for admissions to MD/MS courses for the academic session starting July 1, here today.



Chandigarh, May 22

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) held its entrance exam for admissions to MD/MS courses for the academic session starting July 1, here today. 

As many as 7,600 candidates from across the country appeared for the exam, the results of which will be announced tomorrow afternoon. 

The paper was reported to be typical and was conducted smoothly.  

Giving information, a junior resident doctor of the PGI, who appeared for the exam, said: “The PGI has one of the toughest MD/MS exams in the country. This year, too, the institute maintained its high standard.”

During the three-year course period, junior resident doctors are entitled to emoluments as prescribed by the Government of India. 

The total number of seats available for the July session to first-year junior resident for the MD/MS courses includes 61 for general category, 23 for SC, 15 for ST, 47 for OBC, four for persons with disability and two for Bhutanese National. Seats are available in the departments of anaesthesia, biochemistry, community medicine, dermatology, ENT, forensic medicine, internal medicine, medical microbiology, nuclear medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, pathology, paediatrics, pharmacology, psychiatry, radio diagnosis, radiotherapy, general surgery and transfusion medicine. — TNS
